Loop Diuretics (High Ceiling) used for Treatment of High Blood Pressure
These diuretics (water pills) are not prescribed as frequently for people with normal kidney function, for lowering blood pressure, as the thiazide diuretics.
They have a shorter time of action and generally need to be taken more than once a day.
They are often effective in people who have edema (swelling due to fluid retention).
Since they can cause a significant loss of body fluids, resulting in dehydration, adequate intake of fluids can be important. Symptoms include dry mouth and thirst.
